I wish the night sky shined and sparkled like this over every city in real life

Light pollution. It really screws up the view. It would be so great if the stars in the sky could still be seen over big metropolitan areas. But it doesn’t work like that. You have to go far away from civilization into deserts and nature to see the stars and cosmos the way they are meant to be seen. David Oliver Lennon »Wednesday 7:29pm11/25/15 7:29pm

Traveling on a train across the entire United States is so picturesque

Train travel is the best travel. Sure, it’s slower than riding an airplane and more restrictive than driving a car but it’s so much less stressful than either of those. Plus, once you hop in and sit down, you can just look out and enjoy the view as you snake your way to your destination. And if you’re traveling from… »11/16/15 8:27pm11/16/15 8:27pm

These photos of cities from 10,000 feet in the air are so glorious

Magical. Vincent LaForet’s stunning photo series of cities all over the world at 10,000 feet are exactly just that: magical. It lets you see cities as you’ve never seen them before. Colorful and bright and in the clouds. In extreme detail but also in its entirety. Jaw-popping, eye-dropping, the world we’ve created… »11/11/15 2:34pm11/11/15 2:34pm

This is the most beautiful post-apocalyptic vision of Earth ever

Post-apocalyptic and beautiful are words that I’ve never put in a sentence together until I saw this short film. It takes the exuberant beauty of the ancient temples of Myanmar and incorporates stunning futuristic spaceships to them. That combination creates such gorgeous landscapes that I wish they existed for real. »10/28/15 10:31am10/28/15 10:31am

Beautiful video of blooming flowers makes them look alien

When flowers bloom—over the quick span of a time lapse, at least—they totally look like they’re living, breathing beautiful monsters. The one above looks like a peacock showing his feathers. Or that spraying dinosaur from the old Jurassic Park. Or those piranha plants in Mario. It’s an awesome, almost alien view of… »10/20/15 4:23pm10/20/15 4:23pm

Proof that the sky is both a magical being and a terrifying force of nature

My favorite parts of Mike Olbinski’s Monsoon II isn’t the terrifying bits where the sky turns evil dark monster and decides to pour lightning and strike water down onto the ground but when it dances around like a balletic being and then notices that we’re watching and moves its clouds so it envelopes us all. What a… »10/06/15 7:13pm10/06/15 7:13pm

Time lapse creates a beautiful new world by blending a scene at different times of the day

The same place can look different from day to night. The same scene can give off a completely different vibe if there’s stars above or if the sun is behind. This time lapse merges all the faces of a place together. Julian Tryba, the filmmaker behind this video, filmed multiple time lapses of the same setting at… »10/06/15 2:58pm10/06/15 2:58pm

Making a crystal chandelier is such a beautifully complicated process

Making and bending and shaping crystal into what you want it to be looks like so much fun. The piping hot crystal (which is made from a mixture of silica sand, lead, potash and other ingredients) is heavier and more sparkling than glass and glows this vibrant hue that doesn’t look like it’s from this planet. Here is… »9/23/15 4:25pm9/23/15 4:25pm

Video: The natural wonderland of the Redwoods is so soothing

This old man’s memories are so vivid they feel completely real

Sometimes all it takes is a smell or an image or a flavor to bring back memories so realistic that you almost feel like you’ve traveled back in time. It’s the easiest way to revisit your past without having to worry about unraveling the fabric of the space-time continuum. However, some memories can be a painful place… »9/03/15 11:25am9/03/15 11:25am
