Every sci-fi fan across the planet is speculating on who is playing who in Star Wars Episode VII, the sequel to Return of the Jedi directed by JJ Abrams. Meredith Woerner at io9 has a pretty good analysis on the potential roles for the new cast.
Now that the brand new cast of Star Wars Episode VII has been announced, it's time to pick each actor out one-by-one. Decide who they are playing, and what they are doing. Thankfully, the first official image from the production gives us a few clues. What do you think?
The image released looks like it's from the alleged first table read of the script, that was rumored to be going down today. At most table reads, the director likes to group the cast by who shares the most scenes together. It's not much to go on, but it was enough for us. So the massively annotated image above is what we thought went down.
And here's a nice collection of each new cast member so you can look at their lovely faces. From left to right: Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow,Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac (for reference).
What do you think is happening? Who is playing what? Are we far off? I think the only real wild cards here are Oscar Isaac, John Boyega (whom we believe start off as part of the Empire or at the very least close to the dark side based on proximity to Adam Driver) and Andy Serkis. Serkis could be literally anything.
If we were the betting type, we'd bet the farm on Domhnall Gleeson as an unrequited love for Daisy, but also a fantastic comedy relief who is murdered most foul at the hands of Adam Driver. We don't know why — he just looks like he's going to get murdered by Adam.
Now your turn. Who are they playing?
EDIT: Earlier our post identified Anthony Daniels as Max von Sydow, apologies that was wrong. It's C-3PO.
